This role gives you the opportunity to work in a leading global ophthalmic medical device company, using the latest equipment and tools to develop innovative products helping restore sight to millions of people all over the world.
You will lead the software design and implementation for complex surgical equipment, providing technical guidance to a team of embedded software engineers while maintaining a strong hands-on development focus.
Due to the hands-on nature of the work with our specialised surgical hardware, this position requires a full-time on-site presence at our facility in Heerbrugg.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Define and implement the software architecture for the Sophi platform, balancing 30% architectural design with 70% operative software development.
- Provide inspiring technical leadership to a team of 4-5 embedded software engineers, ensuring high-quality system design through rigorous code reviews and technical mentoring.
- Lead and facilitate planning meetings, including daily Scrum meetings, standups, and retrospectives, to ensure efficient team execution to time and quality.
- Manage and provide technical oversight of external software developers and contractors delivering code for specific system components.
- Ensure high-quality system design through rigorous code reviews and technical mentoring.
- Develop complex software solutions utilizing C++ (Embedded Linux), Yocto, and Qt as well as related testing frameworks.
- Ensure all software development adheres to IEC 62304, ISO 13485, and applicable medical device regulations Generate and maintain Design History Files (DHF) for software and relevant software documentation.
- Develop strong working relationships with Regulatory, Quality, Product Management and Ops Engineering teams.

Desirable
- 3+ years' experience in functional or technical leadership of software teams
- Experience in developing an active medical device
- Working knowledge of all applicable regulations and standards (including MDR, ISO 13485)
