This role gives you the opportunity to work in a leading global medical device company, using the latest equipment and tools to research & develop innovative products helping restore sight to millions of people all over the world.

You will participate in the research, design, development, manufacturing and testing of implantable medical devices and pharmaceutical products, working in multidisciplinary project teams from across the company as well as collaborating externally with surgeons, inventors, research groups and universities. What You'll Be Doing:

  • To represent the R&D Mechanical Engineering function on multi-disciplinary teams working on research, NPD, process improvement, regulatory and clinical projects, providing information, guidance and testing support on mechanical design and development aspects
  • To apply mechanical engineering knowledge to develop solutions to basic technical issues and challenges across new product development, product improvement & manufacturing projects
  • To deliver and report on work packages within the scope of established Design Control and Risk Management procedures
  • To design, plan, and document Mechanical and Optical Tests including collecting, analysing and interpreting technical data from a range of prototype, production, clinical or medical samples and ensuring compliance to relevant International Standards
  • To design and test prototype medical devices for research and NPD projects
  • To maintain a high standard of professional and technical knowledge by attending educational training/workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies

What Experience Do You Need:

  • Degree (or equivalent) qualification in Engineering or relevant technical discipline
  • Working knowledge of general mechanical engineering principles
  • 3+ years working as a full-time R&D/Product Development Engineer in a regulated industry
  • Competence in key Microsoft Office packages (including Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Competence in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD package
  • Experience of sterile barrier packaging design, production and testing (desirable)
  • Experience designing and delivering medical devices to market (desirable)
  • Experience in plastic component design, injection moulding, and testing (desirable)
  • Working knowledge of ISO 13485 (Design Control section), ISO 14971, ISO 11979, ISO 15798, ISO 62366, and ISTA3A or ANSI D4169 (desirable)
