This role gives you the opportunity to work in a leading global medical device company, using the latest equipment and tools to research & develop innovative products helping restore sight to millions of people all over the world.

 

You will participate in the research, design, development, manufacturing and testing of implantable medical devices and pharmaceutical products, working in multidisciplinary project teams from across the company as well as collaborating externally with surgeons, inventors, research groups and universities. 

 

The role is based on-site at our Worthing HQ. Start date will be in 2025.

 

 

What You'll Be Doing

  • Optical design, prototype development and testing together with specification development for intraocular lenses.
  • Technical contribution within cross-departmental project teams developing new ophthalmic products from concept feasibility to full scale manufacturing.
  • Supporting production to introduce new processes and solve manufacturing issues.
  • Critically assessing the Company’s products, processes and systems to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency.
  • Interacting with customers (internal and external, including medical professionals) to better understand their needs (both known and unknown) with a view to improving current products, driving innovation and nurturing collaborations which lead to future new product development opportunities.

 

What Experience Do You Need

  • Masters or PhD in science / engineering field

  • Zemax optical design software experience, 3+ years

  • MATLAB software experience, 3+ years

  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary project team

  • The ability to be organised, work autonomously and to work on your own initiative

  • Experience working in an intraocular lens company designing and developing innovative ophthalmic products and processes is desirable

  • Ability to interpret patient optometry data, biometry and refraction information is desirable

  • Experience designing diffractive optical systems

  • A working knowledge of medical device regulations including the Medical Devices Directive (e.g. ISO13485, ISO11979, FDA QSR 21, CFR 820) is desirable
