The purpose of the Microbiological Lab Manager role is to establish and manage the activities for the Microbiology Technicians and the daily operation of the Rayner microbiological test laboratory. The role will also include hands-on chemical, bioburden and endotoxin testing and reporting on raw materials, product, environmental and water samples to support manufacturing and product release activities. The position shall also support Rayner's business objectives, corporate policies and world class manufacturing.

 

Key Activities:

  • Managing the activities of the Microbiology Technicians
  • Managing the daily operations within the microbiological test laboratory to ensure the timely processing of samples to support manufacturing throughput
  • To act as QA representative for all matters pertaining to the activities of the Rayner microbiological test laboratory
  • Developing and conducting method validations
  • Creating and maintaining microbiology and chemistry test methods, specifications and SOPs
  • Managing consumables, reagents, standards, cultures and control samples
  • Managing data entry and output from LIMS
  • Review and approval of test certificates
  • Receipt, storage and preparation of samples
  • Performing chemical, bioburden and endotoxin testing and reporting of raw material, product and environmental samples as required
  • Processing samples for external testing
  • Investigating and reporting any invalid testing or deviations from expected results or documented procedures
  • Participating in non-conformance investigations relating to microbiological issues
  • Cleaning, calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Preparing and maintaining reagents, standards, cultures and control samples
  • Working to established laboratory practice in accordance with GMP/GLP

Qualifications & Experience:

 

This role would suit an individual with previous experience in the following roles; working within a laboratory environment in the Food, Consumer, Pharmaceutical or Medical Device industry.

Essential

  • Degree, equivalent qualification or equivalent experience in a biomedical science or similar background
  • 3+ years' experience in a microbiology laboratory role within the food, consumer, pharmaceutical or medical device industry
  • Experience with Quality System concepts, practices and procedures (e.g. ISO:13485, ISO 9001, GMS, ISO 17025)
  • Proficient in writing microbiological test procedures
  • Excellent computer literacy with good knowledge of MS Office
  • Working knowledge of LIMS

Desirable

  • Clean Room Experience
  • Sterilization Experience
  • Experience in a laboratory management role including supervisory function
  • Experience with microbiological method validations
  • Expert in LIMS
