Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Form, lead and inspire cross-functional project teams to deliver a programme of related projects within Rayner’s wider project portfolio on time, within budget and to agreed quality. Initially:

  • The upgrade and scale up of an existing medical device manufacturing factory in Portugal

  • The introduction of automated equipment to increase manufacturing capacity

  • The development and introduction of a new portfolio of innovative medical devices

  • Provide the link between teams in the UK Head Office and Portugal

  • Own the creation and maintenance of Project Files including project plans, risk management, resource allocation, verification and validation, design transfer and other relevant documentation ensuring adherence to relevant standards and regulations

  • Develop strong working relationships with Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Production, IT, Commercial and Marketing teams, external partners, suppliers and consultants

  • Chair productive and focused project team meetings, communicate project status and escalate major issues/risks on a regular basis to Project Sponsors, Project Steering Committees and Project Review Group (Senior Management/ExCom) as appropriate, ensuring objectives and progress are aligned to business needs

  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of a simple, effective, company-wide Project Management system with aim of ensuring efficient delivery of projects across the business to expected quality, cost and time objectives

  • Maintain a high standard of professional and technical knowledge by attending educational training/workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies

  • Carry out all duties in accordance with the Health and Safety Policy and procedures

  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the level and character of the work as may reasonably be required by the Company

We are looking for someone:

  • Experienced as a Project Manager with a proven track record of delivery
  • Experienced in managing remote teams across multiple projects and locations
  • Excellent communicator with a proven ability to manage key stakeholders across differing departments and countries
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic individual with good leadership skills and the ability to build strong relationships.  Able to lead and motivate others.
  • Able to stay calm and rational under pressure, bringing structure to complex situations
  • Able to communicate with a range of people from different backgrounds and levels both verbally and in writing, confident to present in front of stakeholders and project teams
  • Strong planning and organising skills, good time management and strong attention to detail
  • Able to manage a demanding workload by prioritising tasks and projects to meet appropriate work standards
  • Willing to regularly travel for work - nationally and internationally depending on project needs

Skills & Experience Required: 

Essential:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or a relevant technical discipline
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working within project management and engineering projects
  • Formal qualification in project management methodologies (e.g. Prince2, APMP, Agile etc)
  • Solid experience with Change Management, New Product Development and working in regulated environments
  • Proficient in the use of relevant tools (e.g. MS Office, PowerPoint, MS Project, MS Teams)

Desirable:

  • Bilingual – Portuguese and English
  • Working in healthcare/pharma/medical devices industry
  • A working awareness of medical device regulations and the medical device directive (ISO13485, ISO11979, FDA QSR 21, CFR 820 etc.)
  • Experience with manufacturing sites integration 
  • R&D program management experience
  • R&D or engineering people management experience
  • Experience of New Product Introduction into local or remote manufacturing facilities
